The Southwest Regional Office of the Oregon Department of Transportation suffered 19 leaks the winter of 2002. The 20-year old standing seam roof was in desperate need of repair. “It was apparent we were ready for a replacement,” said Regional Facilities Manager Raymond Cooper.
Finding a roof that could offer longevity was important for this project, not only in terms of wear and tear, but also where a warranty was concerned. The contractor brought IB Roof Systems to ODOT. The General Manager knew an IB roof could offer exactly what this project needed. According to him, “IB Roof Systems was the only company able to offer an 80 mil product with a 25-year warranty. Other companies
offered a much shorter warranty.”
Work on the ODOT office got underway on June 5th. The State of Oregon had a serious
time constraint and work had to be completed by June 30th or the budgeted money would be lost due to the start of a new fiscal year. The state was also late in authorizing paperwork to start. “Fortunately, the
weather cooperated or we would have been real hard-pressed to complete this 45,000 sq ft project on time,” said project manager Jesse Allen.
The color of the roof was another important factor, since ODOT wanted the energy savings that goes along with a reflective white roof. IB Roof Systems 80 mil white membrane was used. The crew started with an EPS flute filler, a one-inch vapor barrier and a one-inch Polyisocyanuate insulation with the 80 mil IB membrane changing the exterior look. A complicated edge detail was incorporated using pressure treated lumber and IB coated clad metal.
Work wrapped up on the ODOT Regional office in Roseburg on June 30th. “We were very pleased with the overall quality and production of our single-ply crew,” said the General Manager. Raymond Cooper was very knowledgeable and helpful in facilitating the entire reroof project. Cooper says employees are already noticing a difference. “We specifically wanted the reflective material in orderto capture additional savings on heating and cooling. We’ve already received comments from the staff that the building is much cooler.”
